Our story began in 1952 in a small village outside Palermo, Sicily, where Nonna Maria first opened her trattoria. Using recipes passed down through generations, she created a gathering place where family, friends, and neighbors could share in the joy of authentic Italian cuisine.
When her grandson Giuseppe moved to America in 1985, he carried with him not just Nonna Maria's recipes, but her spirit of hospitality and dedication to quality. He dreamed of recreating that warm, welcoming atmosphere where every meal felt like Sunday dinner at home.
In 1998, Giuseppe finally realized his dream when he opened La Tavola Italiana in the heart of Little Italy. Starting with just six tables and a small kitchen, he insisted on making everything from scratch – the pasta rolled fresh each morning, sauces simmered for hours, and bread baked twice daily.
Word spread quickly about the restaurant where you could taste the soul of Sicily in every bite. Giuseppe's commitment to using only the finest imported ingredients and traditional techniques created a loyal following that continues to grow today.
Today, Giuseppe's children Maria and Antonio continue the family legacy, working alongside their father to ensure every dish that leaves our kitchen carries the same love and attention that Nonna Maria put into her cooking over 70 years ago. We remain committed to being more than just a restaurant – we are a place where memories are made, celebrations are shared, and the timeless tradition of Italian hospitality lives on.
